Afghanistan map shows that it has population of around 30 million people inhabiting area of around 647,500 km2 that is 250,001 sq. mi making it 42nd most populous and 41st largest nation in this world. It is bordered by neighboring country Pakistan in south and east, Iran in west, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and in north and China in far northeast.
Afghanistan map shows it as a landlocked and mountainous country with some in north and the southwest. Afghanistan can be described as being located within the South Asia or the Central Asia. It is part of Greater Middle East Muslim world which also lie between latitude of 29° N and latitude of 39° N. Longitude of 60° E and Longitude of 75° E.
This country’s highest point is called Noshaq which is located at 7,492 m that is 24,580 ft. above the sea level. It has somewhat continental climate with harsh winters in central highlands. The glaciated northeast is located around Nuristan and Wakhan Corridor where average temperature in the month of January is below −15 °C that is 5 °F and hot summers in low-lying areas of Sistan Basin of southwest, Jalalabad basin in east, and Turkestan plains along Amu River in north where temperatures average is over 35 °C that is 95 °F in the month of July.
According to Afghanistan map Pashto and Dari that is Persian are official languages of Afghanistan. Bilingualism is common. Both are Indo-European languages from Iranian languages. Persian has always been prestigious language which is used for inter-ethnic communication. Persian is native tongue of Hazara, Tajiks, Kizilbash and Aimaks. Pashto is native tongue of Pashtuns although many Pashtuns use Persian and some of the non-Pashtuns are very fluent in Pashto.

In the year 1979 population was reported to be 15.5 million. The only city with over million residents is the capital called Kabul. The other largest cities in this country are Kandahar, Jalalabad, Herat, Mazar-i-Sharif, Taloqan, Lashkar Gah,Khost, Ghazni and Sheberghan.
Around 99% of Afghan population is Muslim that is approximately 80% to 85% are from Sunni branch, 15% to 19% are Shi’a and roughly around 3% are known as non-denominational Muslims. Until 1890s region around Nuristan was also known as Kafiristan. There are some small minorities of Buddhist, Christians, Sikhs, Parsi and Hindus. There was small Jewish community who emigrated to Israel and United States by end of the twentieth century.
Afghans display lot of pride in their culture, their nation, their ancestry and above all their independence and religion. Like some other highlanders they are also regarded with mingled condescension and apprehension in regard for their personal honor for tribe loyalty and for readiness to use force for settling disputes
